Research Nucleus

In May 2020, FJLES set up the Philanthropy Research Nucleus, with the main target of carrying out academic research, production, and dissemination of knowledge of international excellence about philanthropy and similar issues. The Nucleus also carries out collaborative arrangements and partnerships with other institutions and products that, either directly or indirectly, promote the development of the ecosystem of philanthropy in Brazil.

In August 2021, a Programming and Data Group is established within the Nucleus, with the target of being a pioneer team for the analysis of large databases of philanthropical donations (R. Python, machine learning). Aside from the research activities, the Nucleus is also active in the qualification of social scientists, in the areas of programming and data analysis.

In this manner, the Research Nucleus consists of a group of researchers specialized in connecting academic knowledge – based on evidence, scientific methodology and intensive use of data – to social problems and other issues in the field of philanthropy.

Main lines of research:

  1. Family Philanthropy in Brazil
  2. Foundations and Institutes in Brazil
  3. Decision making in philanthropy
  4. Mapping and profiles of donors in Brazil
  5. Corporate philanthropy in Brazil
  6. Ethics and Philanthropy

Partnership with ‘Gerando Falcões’

A knowledge partnership for strategies for capture of donations and construction of a case study

We have worked together with the Gerando Falcões team for the identification of the donors’ profiles and to assess the best ways of expanding the database of repeat donations. So far, we have carried out an analysis and done the geoprocessing of databases of donors, with modeling and proposals for strategies. Apart from these activities, we have also carried out a workshop on Nudge, centered on donations, presenting the main findings of contemporary literature, for the team of Gerando Falcões. We are now starting the construction of the case study, and continue to lend our support to the Gerando Falcões team.
